Divisions

Administration

The Administrative Office is open Monday thru Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Rodney Walker is the Chief of Police.

Captain Clay Gillespie is our Operations Commander.  He is also our training coordinator and is responsible for fleet maintenance.

Lieutenant Paul Steagall is our Uniform Patrol Commander.  He is also responsible for our Traffic Division, reserve program, Information Technology (IT), and crossing guards.

Lieutenant Marty Burkes oversees the Investigation, Records, DRO, and Evidence Divisions.  He is also responsible for facility maintenance.


Uniform Division

The Uniform Division is comprised of four shifts, a traffic unit, and a school resource unit. Each unit is supervised by a Sergeant and under the command of Lieutenant Steagall. Patrol officers work 12 hours per day in an “Every-Other-Weekend-Off ” schedule. Patrol officers rotate between working days and working nights every 28 days. Each shift is commanded by a Sergeant who is assisted by a Corporal.

The Traffic Division, led by Sergeant Scott Sterling, is on duty 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Traffic Officers Investigate motor vehicle accidents, parking complaints, radar requests, escorts, and special events. Some traffic officers are also Motor Officers and ride Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Investigation Division

The Investigation Division is supervised by Sgt. Keith Scoby.  This division investigates all crimes such as burglaries, robberies, thefts, and assaults after uniform patrol officers start an initial investigation.

Records Division

To obtain copies of accident and incident reports, fingerprints, or to file charges, contact our Records Department Monday through Thursday, 6am-4:30pm at (225) 667-8365. Records requests may be emailed to records@dspd.net.

Please note: The Denham Springs Police Department does not take payments for traffic tickets.  All fines must be paid directly to City Court.   Some tickets may be paid online at: dsclerkofcourt.org.

Stacy McClendon is the department’s evidence officer and crime scene investigator.
